We are super excited to be offering cellulite reductions treatments with Sculptra esthetic. We think it is pretty safe to say that every woman hates cellulite. It is a stubborn problem that affects up to 90% of women (and men too), even if they are in perfect shape. Cellulite is also one of the most difficult issues to treat.
What Causes Cellulite?
There is a misconception that cellulite is simple caused by being overweight. However, the appearance of cellulite dimples are actually caused by clusters of fat deposits that push against connective tissue (fascia) under our skin, giving the skin a bumpy dimpled look and feel. Even women who are very athletic or who have low percentages of body fat can have cellulite – as it is oftentimes caused by your genetics. Cellulite also tends to worsen as we age.
Current Treatments for Cellulite
Everything from creams, to suction devices, to heat-based treatments, to invasive procedures have been tried, with variable degrees of success. These treatments attempt to treat cellulite by focusing on one or more of its root causes. The two main elements that lead to cellulite are localized fat deposits, and fibrous bands of tissue that pull the skin down vertically, creating the dimpled look. Of the two, the fibrous bands are far more important. If one could simply “break up” these bands and release them, the dimples would vanish, and the skin would have a much smoother appearance. As stated, suction, heat or surgical cutting all attempt to do this.
The Secret approach to taking care of Cellulite with Sculptra
But what if a needle could do it? Here lies the secret solution. Simply passing a needle through this tissue can disrupt enough of these fibers to release them and reduce dimpling. What if we could add some new collagen at the same time? This is where Sculptra comes in, a collagen-stimulating filler that is used for facial volume. Our technique, taught to me by one of the leading filler experts in the United States, involves injecting Sculptra into areas of cellulite, thereby releasing fibrous bands, and simultaneously causing new, smoother, collagen to grow in. You will have some bruising in the injection sites, but will see an instant smoothing and a long-lasting smoothness to the areas treated*.
